Polish poultry meat returns to the Chinese market
After a break of several years, Poland is reopening opportunities for exporting poultry meat to China. This is the result of the signing of an agreement between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski and the Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC) Zhao Zenglian.

The document regulates the rules for the application of regionalization in the trade of poultry meat and is an important step towards rebuilding the position of Polish poultry in one of the largest markets in the world.
Regionalisation agreement
The signed document is the most important achievement in agri-food cooperation with China in recent years. Regionalisation means that in the event of outbreaks of avian diseases (HPAI, ND), the export ban does not apply to the whole country, but only to the regions affected by the infection. Thanks to this, Poland gains more stable and predictable trading conditions.
Minister Krajewski emphasized that the talks with Chinese partners lasted many months and were demanding. ” Together with Minister Zhao Zenglian, we agreed that the resumption of shipments of Polish poultry meat will take place as soon as possible.
Prospects for exporters
Since 2014, Poland has been the largest producer of poultry meat in the EU, accounting for over 20 percent of EU production. In the best period before 2020, the value of poultry exports to China reached EUR 55 million per year. Now, thanks to the recognition of the principle of regionalization, Polish producers have a chance to return to the market with even greater sales potential.
The resumption of exports of Polish’s flagship agri-food product is an opportunity to improve the trade balance with China, where goods imported from the Middle Kingdom currently dominate.
Talks with the GACC delegation also covered the prospect of launching the export of Polish beef to China.
Polish agri-food exchange with China
In 2024, exports of Polish agri-food products to China amounted to EUR 145.7 million.
