Results of the household appliances industry in Poland in 2023 (report)
14.03.2024
Despite many challenges in 2023, Poland maintained its leading position in the household appliances industry in Europe

According to the data presented in the report of the Association of Household Appliances Manufacturers APPLiA Polska, 26 million household appliances were produced in Poland in 2023. Almost 23 million were large household appliances. Despite the decrease in production compared to the previous year, Poland still maintains its position as the European leader in the production of household appliances. It is responsible for supplying about 40% of large household appliances throughout the European Union. Poland also managed to maintain its second place in the world in terms of exports of household appliances, competing with increased activity of factories from Turkey and the Far East and a decline in demand in Western European countries.
While 2023 was a challenging year of inflation, COVID-19 delays, and changes in supply chains, the home appliance industry continues to be optimistic about the future. The expected increase in demand, especially driven by the National Recovery Plan, gives hope for further development of the sector.
The most important product categories for the Polish household appliances industry in 2023 were washing machines, dishwashers and clothes dryers, which account for more than half of production. About 90% of Polish production is exported, mainly to the German, French and British markets. Poland is the world leader in exports of clothes dryers (31%) and dishwashers (24%).
In 2023, consumers spent a total of PLN 17.3 billion gross on large and small household appliances. This represents a 4% decrease compared to the previous year. The market for large household appliances shrank by 11%. Sales increases were recorded in narrow washing machines and gas stoves. Better sales results were also noted in niche categories such as single-door refrigerators or refrigerators with a freezer compartment on top. On the other hand, the small household appliances market decreased by approx. 2% in value in 2023.
