PFR's investment in an installation terminal in Gdańsk
13.03.2024
The Polish Development Fund invests PLN 500 million in the construction of T5 – an installation terminal for servicing Offshore Wind Farms (OWF) in the Baltic Hub port in Gdańsk. Part of the project will be covered by funds from the National Recovery Plan (NRP). The investment will contribute to the dynamic development of wind energy in the Baltic Sea. Completion is scheduled for 2026. One of the effects of the construction of the terminal will be the expansion of Poland surface area by 21 hectares.

The aim of the investment is to create a transhipment quay at the BalticHub terminal with a length of 800 meters and a technical depth of 17.5 meters. This will make it possible to moor installation vessels and supply vessels for offshore terminals with an overall length of up to 170 metres. Construction work is expected to begin in mid-2024 and be completed in 2026. The investment is carried out in the “design and build” model.
The first wind turbines will be built in the Baltic Sea at the turn of 2026/2027. According to forecasts, by 2030 offshore wind energy will supply electricity to about 8 million households in Poland annually. The estimated value of investments in offshore wind energy in the coming years will amount to approx. PLN 130 bilion.
Offshore wind farm projects will be developed in the exclusive Polish economic zone of the Baltic Sea. These are the areas designated in the maritime development plan in the area of Ławica Słupska, Ławica Środkowa and Ławica Odrzana.
