A new direction for the export of Polish beef

Polish beef is gaining another non-European market. The arrangements between the Polish and Maldives veterinary authorities , which have just been completed, open up the possibility of exporting beef and its products to that market.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, this is the next stage in strengthening the position of Polish premium food in the world and proof of growing trust in the quality and safety of our domestic products.

Poland’s strong position in beef exports

Poland is one of the leading EU beef producers and exporters – it ranks fifth in terms of production and second in the ranking of exporters in the EU. As much as 80-90 percent of domestic production goes to foreign markets. Between 2023 and 2024, exports of beef and beef products exceeded 500 thousand tonnes per year, reaching a value of EUR 2.52 billion.

Polish beef is reaching more and more markets outside Europe – it is already present in, among others, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan and Singapore. Now the Maldives are also joining this group.

Veterinary certificate available to exporters

The Chief Veterinary Inspectorate has made available a model of the health certificate required for the export of beef and beef products to the Republic of the Maldives. The document can be found on the GIW(Main veterinary institute) website.

Trade with Maldives

Poland maintains a positive balance in trade in agri-food products with the Maldives. In 2024, the value of exports to this market amounted to EUR 4.5 million. The most frequently exported products are: • mineral and carbonated waters – EUR 2.9 million,• chocolate and other products containing cocoa – EUR 0.8 million.

Allowing the export of Polish beef to the Maldives is part of the further development of trade cooperation between the two countries.
