Industry description

Poland is one of the world’s largest railway markets, with a rapidly growing railway industry in terms of finished solutions and components. It is not only a key logistics hub, but also a leader in railway technology. The rail vehicle sector plays a key role in the modern transport system, providing the foundation for the efficient, environmentally friendly and safe movement of both people and goods.

The Polish railway industry is the key sectors of our economy, successfully combining tradition with modernity and innovative solutions. Today, we are one of the leaders in Europe in terms of rolling stock production, state-of-the-art engineering solutions and comprehensive services for the railway sector.

Poland is not afraid of ambitious initiatives. The strategic investment in the rail sector is the high-speed railway project, which will connect Poland’s largest cities with modern lines enabling travel at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Integration into the international network, investment in infrastructure, new rolling stock and technology – this makes Poland one of the leaders in the transformation of railway transport in Europe.

Polish engineers, programmers and designers work together to develop the future of railways. They conduct advanced research into the autonomisation of tram transport and new sustainable technical solutions. Modern silicon carbide drives, energy-saving systems and innovative seating and management systems are being developed in our country.

Main industry institutions

Polish Railway Chamber

The Polish Railway Chamber (izbakolei.pl) is a not-for-profit institution which brings together business entities with links to the railway market. The primary objective of the Chamber is

to represent and protect the interests of its members, as well as to inspire and

support the development of rail transport in Poland. The seat of the Chamber is located in

Bydgoszcz. Its activities consist in the organisation of subject-specific conferences, seminars, trade missions, training courses and workshops, as well as exhibiting at industry trade fairs, which offer great opportunities to present the Chamber to a wide audience operating not only in the rail industry.

Office of Rail Transport

The Office of Rail Transport (UTK) is the domestic authority regulating rail traffic in Poland and transport services provided by railway undertakings. It regularly publishes reports on the demand for rail services and the characteristics of the rail market in Poland.
