The sustainable development of electromobility in Poland
02.04.2024
At the end of February 2024, more than 100,000 fully electric and hybrid (BEV and PHEV) cars were registered in Poland. At the same time, there were more than 6,000 publicly accessible charging points.

The data comes from the monthly “Licznik elektromobilniści”. The analysis is prepared by the Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA) and the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM).
Over 100,000 electric cars
At the end of February, 104,770 electric passenger cars were registered in Poland (an increase of over 57% y/y). Of these 54,120 units were all-electric (BHEV), up almost 60% compared to February 2023. On the other hand 50,150 units were plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), almost 53% more than in February last year. The number of hydrogen-powered cars (FCEVs) increased by 21% compared to the previous year, i.e. to 201 units. The number of electric buses increased by almost 48% (1249 units, including 54 hydrogen-powered buses).
More than 6 thousand charging stations
The number of publicly available vehicle charging points located at 3431 stations increased by 33% compared to February 2023, i.e. to 6213. Of these 4507 of them (26% more y/y) were with AC current (alternating current, lower charging power up to 22 kW) and 1706 (55% more than last year) with DC current (direct current, high charging power of 50 kW or more). In February of this year alone, a total of 127 new charging points were made available. Among the 10 cities with the best charging infrastructure were: Warsaw (595 points), Gdańsk (277), Szczecin (222), Poznań (207), Kraków (198), Katowice (190), Łódź (151), Wrocław (150), Olsztyn (119) and Toruń (110).
Prospects for development
Electromobility is a broad term that describes not only electric vehicles or charging stations. The categories shaping the size of the electromobility market are based on the following HS codes:
– 8501 Electric motors and generators (excl. generator sets),
– 8502 Generator sets and converters,
– 8504 Electrical transformers, converters, converters (for example, rectifiers) and inductors,
– 8507 Electric accumulators, including separators therein, even rectangular (including square).
These categories above describe all components applicable to the e-mobility industry. According to the analysis of UN COMTRADE data Poland is at the forefront of exporting components for the electromobility market. Forecasts indicate that the share of this sector in the national GDP will have an upward trend. It is estimated that it may be as much as 5.7% of GDP by 2050.
