Can Poland become the European leader in the computer games industry?
23.08.2023

In 2022, the revenues of the Polish gaming industry amounted to EUR 1.29 billion, and the total revenues of the sector have increased in the last five years by about 250 percent. – informs the Polish Economic Institute (PIE). It is estimated that 15,000 people work in the gaming industry in Poland, which puts us in third place in Europe, just after Great Britain and France.
Referring to the PARP report, PIE experts report that in 2022 there were 494 game producers and publishers in Poland. An important feature of the Polish computer games industry is its systematic growth, 97 percent of its production is directed for export.
Newzoo’s report, presenting the gaming industry from a global perspective, shows that in 2023 the number of players in the world will reach almost 3.4 billion, which is an increase of 6.3% y/y. The largest player market is Asia Pacific (1.8 billion people), followed by the Middle East and Africa (574 million), Europe (447 million), South America (335 million) and North America (237 million).
Experts from the Polish Economic Institute emphasize that the gaming industry in Poland has been recording a systematic increase in revenues for years, and the export nature of computer games and global trends, allow us to look with hope to the industry’s further development. The Polish computer games sector occupies one of the leading positions in Europe. Experts indicate, however, that this is due more to the number of people employed in it than the amount of revenue generated. This, in turn, shows that there is still a lot of work to be done in order to translate the work put in , into financial results.
According to a report published by PARP, over 65% of games produced in our country are translated into more than two languages, compared to 29% of games created outside of Poland. This again gives hope for a further increase in industry revenues in the coming years. Similarly, the export nature of the industry, in the face of the ever-growing number of players around the world, will produce an increase in the sectors results.
